The magnetic north pole is drifting so fast, maps need constant updates
Unlike the fixed geographic North Pole, Earth's magnetic north pole wanders as molten iron churns deep in the planet's core, and it isn't wandering steadily. It crept about 10 km a year for centuries, then accelerated to roughly 50–60 km a year in the 2000s toward Siberia, forcing agencies to revise the World Magnetic Model — which underpins GPS and compass navigation — far more often than planned.
