Jesse Owens won four gold medals at Hitler's showcase Olympics in Berlin

At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, staged by the Nazi regime to showcase Aryan racial superiority, African-American sprinter Jesse Owens won gold in the 100m, 200m, long jump and 4x100m relay. He was the first American track and field athlete to win four golds at one Games, and his relay team's record stood for 20 years. He came home to a country that still denied him equal rights.
