A 1.8-kilogram helicopter made the first powered flight on another planet

NASA's Ingenuity rode to Mars strapped beneath the Perseverance rover, then on 19 April 2021 lifted about 3 metres off the surface and hovered for roughly 30 seconds — the first powered, controlled flight ever made on another planet. Mars's atmosphere is only about 1% as dense as Earth's, so its rotors had to spin nearly five times faster than a helicopter needs on Earth just to generate lift.
