How you bonded with a parent as a baby predicts how you love as an adult

In 1987, Cindy Hazan and Phillip Shaver asked adults to pick which of three short descriptions best matched how they felt in romantic relationships — and found the same secure, anxious, and avoidant patterns Mary Ainsworth had documented in infants decades earlier. Romantic love, they argued, is an attachment bond running on the same system built in the crib.
