Angela Duckworth measured 'grit' — sustained passion and perseverance toward long-term goals — with a short questionnaire. It out-predicted IQ, SAT scores and physical fitness for which cadets would complete West Point's brutal summer training, and predicted how far kids would advance in the National Spelling Bee.
