A twitching frog leg revealed that bodies run on electricity

In the 1780s, Luigi Galvani found that a dead frog's leg twitched when touched by two different metals joined together, or when lightning struck nearby. He concluded that nerves and muscles carry a built-in 'animal electricity,' publishing the work in 1791. His rival Volta showed the metals themselves generated the current, but Galvani's frogs had still shown that living tissue runs on electrical signals.
