A cuckoo chick hatches, then evicts its foster siblings from the nest one by one

Female common cuckoos lay their eggs in other birds' nests and leave. Within hours of hatching — still blind and featherless — the cuckoo chick shoulders every other egg and hatchling over the rim, so the host parents end up raising it alone, often growing far larger than the parents feeding it.
