A rooster doesn't say 'cock-a-doodle-doo' in Japanese
Onomatopoeia for animal sounds vary widely across languages, even though animals everywhere make roughly the same sounds. A rooster's crow is 'cocorico' in French, 'kikeriki' in German, and 'kokekokko' in Japanese; a dog's bark is 'wan wan' in Japanese and 'hav hav' in Hindi. The differences show that even sounds meant to imitate nature get filtered through a language's own allowed sounds and syllable patterns.
