The deepest point in the ocean could swallow Everest with room to spare
The Challenger Deep, at the southern end of the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific, plunges to roughly 10,935 metres below sea level, deep enough that if Mount Everest were dropped in, its peak would still sit over 2 km underwater. Only a handful of crewed descents have ever reached the bottom.
