Profits from Beatles records helped fund the first CT scanner

Engineer Godfrey Hounsfield worked for EMI, the record label that published the Beatles, when he began developing a machine that could build 3D X-ray images of the body in the late 1960s. EMI's music profits, boosted enormously by Beatles sales, helped bankroll the research. The resulting CT scanner won Hounsfield a Nobel Prize in 1979 and transformed medical diagnosis.
