One bird flew 13,560 km without stopping to eat, drink or land
In October 2022, a young bar-tailed godwit tagged '234684' flew nonstop from Alaska to Tasmania in eleven days — the longest uninterrupted flight ever recorded for any animal. Godwits fuel the trip by shrinking their digestive organs before departure and packing on fat instead, then burning through both fat and muscle over the Pacific crossing.
