The world's largest desert isn't the Sahara — it's Antarctica

A desert is defined by how little precipitation falls, not by temperature, and by that definition the ice-covered continent of Antarctica is the largest desert on Earth, nearly twice the size of the Sahara. Its interior receives less than 50mm of precipitation a year, drier than almost anywhere else on the planet, which is part of why its ice sheet has survived for millions of years.
