Wild goats scale a near-vertical dam wall just to lick the concrete

Alpine ibex have been filmed climbing the sheer face of dams in the Italian Alps, using split, rubbery hooves to grip footholds barely wider than a coin. They're not showing off: concrete leaches a calcium-rich mineral called ettringite as it cures, and salt-starved ibex will climb tens of metres of vertical wall to lick it off. Their hooves can support the animal on a ledge barely bigger than its own foot.
