NASA scientists said a rock from Mars contained fossilised alien microbes

ALH84001, a meteorite blasted off Mars and found in Antarctica in 1984, made world news in 1996 when a NASA-led team reported microscopic structures, magnetite grains and organics inside it resembling fossilised bacteria — Clinton gave a televised statement. Other scientists reproduced similar structures with ordinary, lifeless chemistry, and a 2022 study concluded the organics formed abiotically roughly 4 billion years ago. Most researchers now reject the claim.
